Winding Trails Slowpoke!

I thought I was in better shape – but was sadly mistaken! This was my first race of the season, and technically the first time in the upgraded Cat 2/Sport Class. It was also the first time that I’ve raced on the new Giant XTC 29r. As I lined up in the 40-49 age category, I looked around and it didn’t look good for me. There were a lot of pretty buff “dudes” that looked like they were riding all winter. Turns out there were 36 in the class +  the father and daughter tandem team. They were the only people that didn’t pass me….Either way, my trusty heart rate monitor kept me from going overboard, and I left with a few important take-aways:

1. I finished the race….

2. I cleaned the course 100% (even the slimy mud climb 3x) and

3. I felt pretty good at the end of the race. (Today is a different story!)

I was glad to meet some of my new team members, and think that we’re going to have a lot of fun this year. HG

  1. Howie you need to join us for some Ride Bully treatment. I got the Smith, Crossley, Devincent and Pinney pounding yesterday. Hopefully we get some good weather this Sunday for another team training ride. Plus we have the road ride for Friday up north. I’m in the same boat as you and in the same class this year. Its a big jump to Sport so there’s a lot to learn. Good ride and nice picture!

  2. I love seeing all these reports! Nice job everyone. I feel like I’m getting to know people even though I haven’t met some of you yet.

Way to get the sponsor front and center as well 😉 We recently received our order as well and I was very pleased with everything. Quality clothing and I can’t wait to see what my new Slant Six’s can do!

  3. The first race is the hardest. It was nice meeting you and some of the other team members before and after the race. Keep it up!
