Phew! What a weekend! I’m not even sure where to start. Congrats to Phillip, Kingdom Trails, Burke Mtn., East Burke, VT, the vendors and everyone else who went into making this event such a success. Talk about complete MTB overload. If you missed out this year imagine miles of amazing singletrack, crazy gravity trails, tons of new toys to check out, and over a thousand other people who love exactly the same things as you all packed into one of the coolest towns in Northern VT. Missing it next year would be incredibly irresponsible.
One of the great parts about being on the team is having teammates all over New England, so finding a guide with great local knowledge is no trouble at all. Mark is based in the area and offered to take the team around for as much as we could handle.
Local trail knowledge is invaluable. Especially at KT. Having so many trails is a double edged sword. How do you get it all in? Which trails are a must hit? Which direction do they ride the best? It could take years to figure that out unless you ride Kingdom frequently. I’m happy to say I’m now much more KT knowledgeable thanks to Mark. We started by climbing up and getting all the good stuff coming down off Burke. Crossed Rt. 114 and got the goods up over by White School and swooped down into town. This was right around where Bully, bullied his frame just a little too much and snapped the down tube completely through. Our group splintered a bit at this point as a few helped Shawn limp back into town.
The rest of us ground up Darling Hill and started up at Harp and made our way down the west side getting all the goods. As we reached Border we decided to truncate our journey up the east side as the weather was threatening and we didn’t want to get caught in anything. Luckily nothing big ever really hit and we finished off the ride with nice grind back up to the expo area.
And what better way to finish off a big riding day than with a few beers, bands, and partying late night with Gary Fisher at the camping area. Hopefully we’ll see you there next year!
